Why is magnetic filtration of value?
Quality magnetic filters are capable of filtering to submicron levels without flow restriction and are reusable for 10+ years. The most damaging contaminant in engine lube, hydraulic fluid, fuel and coolant is ferrous metal under 10 microns.
Why is magnetic separation valuable?
Quality magnetic separators are capable of removing contamination to sub-micron levels without flow restriction and are reusable for 10+ years. Black Powder contamination is very damaging to oil, gas, chemical, and water transmission lines.
How do you collect non ferrous contamination on a magnetic filter or separator?
Through static adhesion caused by static charge build up with the high flow fluids and or gases. Also through entrainment which occurs when a particle of ferrous contamination gets embedded in the non-ferrous particle allowing the magnetic filter to capture the entire mass.
What types of magnetic filters are there?
The most common are ceramic which have been used to filter oil and fluids for the past 50 years. The new magnetic filters use rare earth magnets in the magnetic filters.
What is the difference between ceramic and rare earth magnetic?
Ceramics are low in magnetic strength and will crack and disassemble when exposed to vibration. They also lose their magnetic field strength when exposed to high heat. Exposed ceramic is also very hard to clean. Rare earth magnets are 4 times stronger than ceramic magnets and handle high heat without losing field strength and are highly resistant to vibration. They are coated and do not crack. They are installed in stainless steel tubes, retain their strength and clean very easily.
What are the advantages of magnetic filters?
Magnetic filters are manufactured with our patented design and are 12 times stronger than ceramic magnetic filters; they are encased in stainless steel tubes in a patented format that creates powerful projected radial fields that have larger surface area than traditional magnetic filter rods.
What are the advantages of magnetic separators?
Our Black Powder separation technology will remove the Black Powder down to sub-micron levels improving gas or liquid hydrocarbon quality and reduce premature wear of the related components of the transmission line.
How do you clean magnetic filters and rods?
The magnetic filters and rods have no magnetic field at the end thereby you slide the contamination down to the end and it falls off. Some of the Eclipse Magnetic technology is self-cleaning and thus this is not needed as the system cleans itself without human interaction.
What do you do with contamination collected?
It is recommended to have the trapped contamination analyzed for wear debris identification. The magnetic filters / separators become predictive maintenance tools.
What happens if you remove all the metal out of oil?
Our magnetic filters remove the ferrous and in many applications the non ferrous contamination to submicron levels due to static adhesion but you will never remove all the metal as it is produced by moving metal parts, new oils and fluids are contaminated with metal and air ingression contaminates the system with fine metal particles under 10 microns. If you are tracking the contamination levels through oil analysis and install magnetic filters you will simply drop your bench mark levels much lower. The less hard metals results in less wear thereby extended component and fluid/oil life.
How long do magnetic filters last?
Eclipse Magnetic Filters have a 10+ year life expectancy.
What is Black Powder?
Black Powder is primarily iron oxides, iron sulfides and some silica which results from internal erosion and corrosion of carbon steel pipelines and operating equipment.
Why is Black Powder damaging to my system?
Black Powder causes many costly problems for the pipeline and processing industries. Problems such as: degradation of product supplied to the consumer, reduced production values from premature pumps, turbine/compressor component wear and tear, premature wear of transmission lines, plugging of meters and traditional filters, seizing of valves and reducing product quality.
